Resources available on stock shelter and stock health in extreme weather events

Following the recent successful field day hosted by the Swanpool Landcare Group on Shelterbelts and addressing the impact of extreme weather events on livestock and production a number of resources have been added to the Gecko CLaN website.

Copies of presentations by Dr Ian Holmes, DEDJTR District Veterinary Officer – Benalla and Kylie Macreadie, DEDJTR – Land Health Officer have been added to the Resilient Sustainable Agriculture Project page.

If you were unable to attend the field day and would like to find out more information about the following topics, I commend the presentations to you.  Information covered on the day included:

  • Animal health impacts of hot and cold weather on livestock
  • Production cost impact
  • Tools that can assist in identifying these events
  • Manage and enhance existing shade and shelter
  • Designing shelter belts 
  • Determining the right trees to plant

 

Nick O’Halloran, creator of Fence.Farm Fence mapping and cost calculation website also spoke on the day and links to this resource has also been added to the Resources tab on the Gecko CLaN website.
