The Gecko Clan region has recently experienced severe weather including floods, fires and winds that have devastated large old trees and our rural landscape.  To prepare for and respond to natural disasters our communities need the best available local, soil moisture and weather data.  With the support of our member Landcare groups, Gecko Clan Landcare has established a network of weather stations and soil moisture probes that are hosted on the properties of local Landcare members.  This technology was established with support from grants from the State Government over the past 5 years.

In 2024 with the shut down of the 3G mobile network, the weather stations and soil moisture probes risked becoming stranded assets resulting in a loss of connection and ability for our communities to access the data when required.

However, this situation changed with funding from the NAB Foundation in 2024.  Gecko Clan Landcare has been able to upgrade all of our remote monitoring equipment with 4G technology thereby reconnecting our network and community.
