*****Queensland Fruit Fly is a major horticultural pest in Eastern Australia and poses a significant threat to horticultural production, trade and export.
Funded by the Victorian Government and developed in partnership with industry and the community, the Managing Fruit Fly Regional Grants Program supports community action to manage fruit fly with industry led regional action plans, co-ordination, on ground control programs and local community engagement activities.
The Goulburn Murray Valley Regional Fruit Fly Project was developed and funded by the Regional Grant’s Program to facilitate fruit fly awareness and education in Victoria’s horticultural regions, under the direction of a Statewide and Regional coordinators.
The GMV Regional Fruit Fly Project is excited to announce, that as part its ongoing commitment to raising Fruit Fly awareness, it will host the “No Flies On Us” Expo at locations across the GMV and neighbouring areas, from August 27 to 3 September 2018.
Home gardeners, commercial growers, community groups and interested community members are invited to attend the Expo, to hear from an impressive list of guest speakers and industry experts, on the value of working together to stop the spread of Queensland Fruit Fly. Ross Abberfield, GMV Regional Fruit Fly Coordinator, says the main message of the Expo “is to take ownership of the issue as part of an Area Wide Management approach to dealing with the threat of Queensland Fruit Fly.
The Expo will include community and grower forums, and educational workshops and trap building sessions for local primary school students. Local Lions and Rotary Clubs will assist in conducting information sessions and workshops and a free lunchtime BBQ will be available at all locations.
Live on-site radio broadcasts will be conducted as well as television and newspaper coverage to keep the community informed about the Expo.
The Goulburn Murray Regional Fruit Fly Project is asking for expressions of interest, if you or members of your group or organisation are interested in attending the Expo.
