Dr Russ Barrow from Charles Sturt University is a researcher with the ‘Dung Beetles Ecosystems Engineers (DBEE)’ project, monitoring the distribution, abundance and diversity of dung beetles across various climatic zones in Australia

Dung beetles play a critical role in Australia’s grazing ecosystems. By burying dung in the soil, beetles improve the flow of water, nutrients and carbon into the root zones of pastures.

Russell will take us on a paddock walk to discuss- dung beetle ID, benefits of dung beetles, consideration before introducing dung beetles, introduced species in Australia, what species are near me?, featured resources and how to get involved in the project.

Location: 507 Benalla-Tatong Road, Benalla (look out for Landcare signs)
Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a drink, hat and writing materials.
